Abstract
Concrete has been and is still widely used in the domain of infrastructure and building construction. Hence, it is of major importance to ensure that concrete constructions keep their mechanical properties during their whole service life. Durability of concrete structures is then a great concern in our societies, and requires a better understanding of what happens at the material scale. These cementitious materials are exposed to a wide panel of internal and external actions, such as carbonation, rebars corrosion, chlorine aggression, sulfatic reactions (internal and external), cracking… that may lead to a loss of mechanical properties of the material, and hence of the structure. All these actions have in common the role played by water contained in the porosity of these materials and its transfers. This presentation will expose recent works conducted at LamCube Laboratory, Lille on this subject in two particular topics related to water transfers in cementitious materials、: first, an experimental approach relying on electric tomography to investigate the properties of structures in a non-destructive way, and second a more theoretical approach of modelling water retention properties of cementitious materials.
